Darryl Durham's Biography

Darryl Thomas Durham Sr.’s Biography
My education concerning canines began at an early age from my
father, Grover Franklin Durham Sr. in Dayton, Ohio in the mid 1960’s. I
spent numerous years learning from my father how to train young
beagles. My father Grover Franklin Durham Sr. was a skilled
outdoorsman and taught all his sons the ways of surviving in the
wilderness. All of the training I learned from my father was the
beginning of my olfactory training of beagles.
One of the main animals I learned about as a child was the habits of the
wolf and how it survives in the wild. I learned how a pack of wolves
works as a group in order to survive, and how a pack of wolves selects
a King Wolf (Pack leader). My father’s knowledge of wild life helped
me to identify the habits of today’s canines because they are
descendents of wolves.
My beginning experience in training beagles would change my thinking
as I would learn from my brother. I thought I knew everything about
canine behavior and training until I went off to college in the summer of
1981 in Little Rock, Arkansas. I stayed with my brother Gregory
Folston Durham Sr. while attending a four-year college.
My brother Gregory Folston Durham Sr. is one of the top Master
Trainers in the United States, and owns Durham Haus Working Dogs
of Arkansas. I was experienced in canine pack theory, but I lacked in-
depth knowledge of the “Child Theory Training” as my older brother
would soon teach him.
The 1980’s was the first time I started learning how to train canines on
a working dog level. For the two and a half years working with Gregory
Folston Durham Sr. and attending to school for my Bachelor’s Degree
in Engineering, I learned about theories and methods from my brother
on how to train canines as working dogs.
I started my training career in the early 80’s as an agitator helper for
biting dogs for my brother. The very first time I started agitating a
canine was with a one hundred and twenty pound (Durham Haus)
trained dog to conduct controlled sleeve bites. After taking several
perfect controlled bites, I knew I wanted to become a professional
working dog trainer. Working side by side with a Master Trainer on
Child Theory training of obedience over those years was the most
exhilarating feeling I could have had.
I would like to thank the Lord, my dearest father Grover Franklin
Durham Sr and my brother Gregory Folston Durham Sr for having the
patience to teach me how to become the working dog trainer I am
today.
The Durham Family is a family of trainers, from father (Grover Franklin
